I’ve been using headphones since my CSGO days, and I’ve always preferred open-back headphones like the Sennheiser HD700 and HD560S. Recently, I found a great deal on the Beyerdynamic DT30, which became my second pair of IEMs.
My first IEM experience was with the Hype 2, but I found them fatiguing and uncomfortable. I also didn’t like the strong isolation or the feeling of not being able to hear myself speak.
The DT30 fixed those issues. They’re smaller, lighter, and fit my ears much better. I’m using the medium silicone tips, and the fit feels natural. I can still hear my own voice and some background noise, which is exactly what I prefer.
The most important factor for me is in-game performance, especially sound positioning. The DT30 has impressive imaging. I can easily pick up subtle details like footsteps, reloads, jumps, and enemies setting up utility like flashbangs. The soundstage isn’t extremely wide, but it’s not narrow either — it feels balanced and natural. Because of that, it’s replacing my HD560S for gaming.
I’m also using the Fosi K7 DAC with the treble at 0 (even +1 feels too bright for me) and the bass at 0.
I’m curious what IEMs others are using or would recommend, especially for competitive FPS gaming.
