Spider-Man, or Marvel in general, is a pretty big deal for PUBG to collab with. I’ve seen a lot of people on this Reddit and comments in NA/EU promotion for this Spider-Man update say that they were extremely excited for it and be really positive about the returning collab. However, when actually seeing the gamemode and the other in game free rewards, it just kinda feels like the equivalent of the Mr. Beast collab in terms of effort.
We’ve only got two types of POIs in the game (both of which are decently well done though, just wish we had some more interiors), along with a small grave, some somewhat fun web swinging gameplay and a few free rewards, but that’s nothing in comparison to the Naruto collab and I feel like I’ve already had all the fun I could on it after barely any screen time. It’s only on Erangel (which doesn’t really make sense because Rondo has a city and better terrain for web swinging), the web physics don’t make sense at all in comparison to what we got for AOT, the web gloves aren’t practical to use against players, there’s no other themed vehicles or villain abilities to make stuff more versatile outside of the city POI, nothing for the Punisher or Hulk (which would be great in PUBG, also DareDevil but he’s not apart of this movie), and we don’t even have cosmetics in the game that we can get through a draw or prize path, which at first is a nice to feel like Tencent isn’t just trying to capitalise on their gambling stuff for once, but later feels like a huge letdown that there’s not much to permanently take away from this event. We’ve gotten skins from Transformers, Sonic, KFC, so much anime, Arcane, The Boys, even brainrot toilet head, but not a single proper Spider-Man suit?
We got how many skins in the Naruto event?
I wish they had waited to make the Spider-Man event after the Naruto one had ended so we could’ve gotten a full-effort Marvel event. It’d be awesome to see the type of stuff that they did for Naruto or Dragon Ball applied to something that is either more western/universal-appealing for once, especially with Marvel. The new Doom Avengers arc is coming and that’d be a great opportunity for PUBG. It could draw back in especially the NA community and content creators to bring some life to NA servers again, even if it’s just temporary.
I think Marvel would also fit the themes of PUBG a lot better, having Stark Industries references to the war parts of the game and having a Civil War/Doom type vibe to cosmetics and abilities. Hell, I’d even take Spider-Verse with Miles and Noir.
And I know a lot of people would be more than willing to spend money on Marvel based skins. I’m not exactly one for flashy skins myself, but I do also prefer them over the normal gilt ones and I think it’d make the game a lot more appealing to the dwindling western audiences while still being a hit globally.
