The highly anticipated God of War Laufey game has finally had its release date confirmed, four years on from Kratos and Atreus’ last outing in God of War: Ragnarok.
God of War Laufey is a new chapter in the series and will be released on 16th February 2027, as Laufey learns she must fight through the afterlife of the gods.
The release date was confirmed at a San Diego Comic-Con panel, which also saw Santa Monica Studio head of creative Cory Barlog announce that the next Kratos-led God of War game would be coming after God of War Laufey and is directly connected to her story, as per IGN.
During the panel, Barlog said of the upcoming Laufey-led game that he wanted to see an extension and expansion of the world where the characters we meet are unexpected.
“Everything we are doing in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand what comes next,” he explained. “Phranque has been around since the beginning. It’s interesting to see how to build this world out. Everything in the game is setting up for something so amazing.”

In a post to the PlayStation blog last month, developer Sony Santa Monica described the game: “Death was supposed to be the end, but for Laufey (Faye), warrior and wife to Kratos, a new adventure is just beginning. Awakening unexpectedly in a strange land after her funeral, Faye discovers the plans she put in place to protect Kratos and Atreus are now at risk.
“To save the ones she loves, Faye must fight through the afterlife of the gods – the Everywhen – where ruthless gods from across mythology vie for power in a land overflowing with dangerous magic.”

God of War Laufey was confirmed last month, alongside a 20-minute gameplay trailer, setting the scene and introducing us to Faye, played by Daredevil’s Deborah Ann Woll.
The trailer began with Kratos and Atreus burning Faye’s body before Kratos returns, aiding Faye while she is imprisoned.
“Faye is, while it’s a different thing, it’s still part of the larger tapestry of what we truly really want to explore, all of these different characters in there,” Barlog said of the new game. “But there’s always going to be Kratos games, like, throughout the whole history. We’re super excited about that.”
