DCKO is a new fighting game set in the DC Universe that’s expected to release across iOS and Android in 2027.

It’s developed by Drop Fake, a new studio founded by ex-Kabam developers, many of whom worked on Marvel Contest of Champions.

The game includes DC characters fighting in 2v2 tag teams across a variety of modes, including PvE and PvP. Drop Fake says it is aiming for gameplay that’s both approachable and has a high skill ceiling.

The team says its real time PvP is a first for a fighting game on mobile, and Drop Fake hopes to retain the spirit of the arcade days. “It was important to us that DCKO represented a significant leap forward for the fighting game genre on mobile,” said Drop Fake creative director Gene Campbell.

“Live multiplayer games between players are core to the spirit of fighting games, and we are proud of the work we’ve done to bring this feature to mobile comic book fighters for the first time.”

“We want to nurture a healthy, competitive scene for this game and will share more on that in the future. Our team is very experienced in delivering games that comic book fans adore, and we can’t wait to hear everyone’s feedback on DCKO when we launch next year.”

Kabam’s Marvel Contest of Champions is hugely successful. According to AppMagic, it’s thought to have earned around $1.55bn since its 2014 launch, generating the most revenue (62%) and downloads (18%) in the US.
