Question on VRAM behavior: Does thermal pad quality actually change memory allocation this much after changing them?
I just finished testing my ASRock Radeon RX 9070 XT Taichi, and the benchmark results blew my mind.
The ONLY change between these tests was swapping out the stock/cheap thermal pads for high-quality ones.
V-BIOS & BIOS: 100% same, untouched.
Windows & Game settings: Same (Default/Unchanged).
Driver version: Exactly the same.
Look at the results:
1. 95th% FPS (Minimum) tripled from 51 to 172!
2. VRAM allocation drastically dropped from 6.2 GB to 5.7 GB! (I also saw a similar drop in Monster Hunter Wilds, from 8 GB down to 6 GB).
I'm really surprised by this VRAM behavior. Does the sheer quality/performance of a thermal pad (preventing EDR/error correction loops on GDDR6) directly alter how the game engine handles memory allocation like this?
Have any of you experienced a significant drop in VRAM consumption just by upgrading your thermal pads or improving VRAM/VRM cooling? Love to hear your thoughts!
