A new week brings a new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, with three fresh events now live and running through next Monday.

Race A is the fun one. It pairs the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am ’78 with Willow Springs International Raceway’s original layout, better known as Big Willow, and it is difficult not to see at least a nod to Smokey and the Bandit.

Burt Reynolds made the black-and-gold Trans Am Special Edition a movie star in the 1977 film, outrunning Sheriff Buford T. Justice across the South in Hal Needham’s directorial debut. The car in GT7 is technically a year newer than the Bandit’s, but nearly 50 years later, that shape and color scheme remain instantly recognizable.

Big Willow’s lap is a string of big, sweeping, high-speed corners that reward commitment more than precision; a good fit for the Trans Am. BOP (Mid Speed) keeps the field tight over six laps on Sports Hard tires, so expect close racing. Just be mindful in traffic, since a track this fast and open doesn’t leave much room to recover from contact. There’s no DR at stake in the race, either, so there may be quite a few “bandits” on the prowl…

Race B is more familiar territory: Gr.4 machinery at the Nürburgring GP for five laps on Racing Mediums.

This is the shorter, modern Grand Prix circuit built alongside the legendary Nordschleife, not the “Ring” itself, and its mix of medium-speed corners and a tighter infield section is a different test than the full loop.

Race C is the one with actual strategy attached. Gr.3 cars take on ten laps of Suzuka Circuit’s famous figure-eight layout, with fuel consumption doubled and tire wear quadrupled. Racing Hard and Racing Medium are both mandatory, so a pit stop is guaranteed. Suzuka’s mix of fast, flowing sections and technical corners makes tire and fuel management as much a factor here as raw pace.

About GT7 Daily Races

Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in Gran Turismo 7. Your DR and SR are determined by your performances, updating at the end of each race, and these are used to set your ranking for the game’s flagship esports series each season.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, July 20.
