One of the major talking points in the gaming industry over the last week or so is PlayStation’s decision to pull the plug on physical games. Starting in January 2028, Sony is ending production of discs. Right now it’d be pretty much impossible to find any positive reactions to the news.

PlayStation would probably defend its decision in bringing up how more and more people continue to buy games digitally. Interest in physical titles has been on a mostly steady decline, so the company may have felt that production costs weren’t worth it. Still, there is a core group interested in having a game they can actually hold in their hands.

That brings us to our topic for this week. How many games are you buying physically? Have you made the shift to all-digital? Let us know in the comments.

What am I playing? Xenoblade Chronicles 1. A friend gifted me the Wii version of the game as part of Operation Rainfall. I tried to get into it at first, but the combat system didn’t really click with me and I fell off after Xord.

I tried again when the Definitive Edition came out for the Switch and tapped out at nearly the same point. Now the even-more-Definitive Edition is out for the Switch 2, so I threw a $10-er in pre-existing eShop credit at it, figuring the third time’s a charm. Now I’m actually having fun; the Ether Jet and the increased frame rate make a world of difference.
