I've been trying to learn the Mirage window-to-cat jump for longer than I'd like to admit, and I'm honestly at the point where I feel like I'm missing something fundamental.

I've watched what feels like every YouTube tutorial on the jump. Every creator makes it look effortless, they stand on the window sill, take what looks like a single step, and somehow float all the way to the cat ledge.

I've probably attempted this jump countless times. I've only actually landed it around 10 times.

At this point, I can get fairly consistent with the initial movement:

  • I consistently hit the strafe jump onto the window sill.
  • I consistently make the jump from the window.

The problem is the final jump to cat. I keep falling short.

I've been very conscious about the common mistakes people mention:

  • Letting go of W once I'm airborne.
  • Holding D during the air strafe.
  • Moving my mouse smoothly to the right while strafing.
  • Holding crouch for the jump.

Despite all of that, I consistently come up short. It doesn't even feel close most of the time.

I've attached a short video with three attempts. The majority of my attempts look very similar in terms of both distance and height. Occasionally my air strafe brings me back a little more centered over the landing pillar, but I still don't seem to have enough height or distance to actually make the jump.

My assumption is that something about my air strafe isn't generating enough velocity, but I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong. What's ironic is that a lot of the tutorial videos for this jump specifically say it isn't a particularly difficult jump and that you don't need to perfectly optimize your velocity to make it consistently. Meanwhile, I watch people take one step from the window sill and seemingly float across, while I'm dropping short almost every attempt.

I'm starting to wonder if there's something else I'm missing. Is there another mechanic involved? Could there be a movement setting, or something else that would affect the distance? Or is there a common mistake that isn't obvious in most tutorial videos?

I'd really appreciate any advice. At this point I feel like I've put enough hours into this jump that I should be much further along, but I genuinely can't figure out why people seem to glide across while I'm dropping straight into mid. If anyone can spot what I'm doing wrong from the video, I'd be incredibly grateful.
