Valve launched the Steam Controller last month, while the Steam Machine is scheduled to be released tomorrow, on June 30. Now, fans are looking ahead to the third and final product Valve announced alongside them: the Steam Frame.
Valve has not officially revealed when the Steam Frame will launch or how much it will cost, but both the price and release date are expected to be revealed soon. In the meantime, compatibility ratings for games have started appearing.
As spotted by Brad Lynch on X, Portal 2 is one of the first games to receive a Steam Frame compatibility rating. The game has been labeled as “Playable,” which means it runs on the Steam Frame, but it is not fully optimized out of the box.
The compatibility notes for Portal 2 explain a few key things about how the game performs on the Steam Frame. The game does not support the device’s native display resolution, which can lead to reduced visual clarity or performance issues. All core features still work using the default controller setup, so players can fully control the game without needing custom configuration.
The game also properly shows Steam Frame controller icons, and the in-game interface text is readable on the device. On the positive side, the default graphics settings are considered good enough to run well on the Steam Frame. In simple terms, this means Portal 2 works on the Steam Frame, but it may not look or perform perfectly unless some settings are adjusted.
