SALISBURY – There have been a number of changes to the Rowan County American Legion schedule as the team heads down the stretch in the regular season.

The games with Kannapolis, originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, were postponed. They are now set for Tuesday, June 30 (at Northwest Cabarrus High) and Wednesday, July 1 (at South Rowan High).

Rowan had been scheduled to play Davidson County on July 1, but Davidson had to reschedule a league game. It worked out when Rowan also needed a reschedule.

Rowan is 11-0 in the Southern Division of Area 3, but still has five games left to play in a five-day stretch, and all are against the top half of the division.

Rowan travels to Queen City on Sunday.

On Monday, Rowan plays Union County at home. That will be first meeting of the season.

After the two Kannapolis games, Rowan will make the trip to Wingate to play Union County on Thursday, July 2, in the regular-season finale.

Officially, Rowan County is 19-2 now instead of 18-2, reflecting one forfeit win.

League games scheduled with Stanly that were not able to be played are being recorded as forfeit wins by all teams.

The Southern Division standings (including forfeits): Rowan 11-0, Union County 9-2, Kannapolis 9-3, Queen City 8-5, Mooresville 7-6, Matthews 5-7, Wadesboro 5-9, Mocksville 4-10.

Randolph County is 8-0 in the Northern Division, while High Point is 9-2.

The Area 3 All-Star Game is planned for Finch Field on the Fourth of July.

The playoffs are scheduled to start on July 6, with the first round being best-of-3.

The second and third rounds will be best-of-5, with the third round determining the state tournament qualifiers.

The semifinal winners will play one game for the Area 3 championship.

The state tournament will be hosted by the Gaston Braves at Sims Legion Park, July 25-29.

Cherryville is hosting the Southeast Regional at Fraley Field and Sims Legion Park, Aug. 5-9

The American Legion World series will be held at Shelby’s Keeter Stadium, Aug. 13-18.
