HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — The Marshall Thundering Herd men’s basketball team will face two major non-conference opponents on the road in its 2026-2027 season.
The school announced in a press release Friday that it will travel to both Ohio State and North Carolina in the month of November.
Marshall will play Ohio State at Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio, on Nov. 9, and will turn around to face UNC at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Nov. 20. Game times have not been announced for either matchup.
“We’re looking forward to competing against the likes of both UNC and Ohio State,” Marshall men’s basketball coach Cornelius “Corny” Jackson said in the release. “Those are the types of matchups that challenge your team, create memorable experiences for your players and provide a chance to showcase the growth and competitiveness of our program on a national stage.”
Marshall has only faced Ohio State twice before, but haven’t seen the Buckeyes since 2016 when the Herd lost by a score of 111-70 in Columbus. Meanwhile, UNC has faced (and beaten) Marshall three times. The Tar Heels’ most recent matchup with the Herd was in Chapel Hill way back in 2009, winning 98-61.
According to the team’s press release, the rest of Marshall’s non-conference slate for its 2026-2027 season will be announced at a later time once it is fully solidified.
