The Northern Nevada Baseball Coaches Association is hosting a junior All-Star game next month that will showcase the 5A North’s best underclassman players.
The game is June 7 at Bishop Manogue High School at noon. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors. Proceeds will go directly to the Northern Nevada Baseball Coaches Association.
Each team will be made up of all-conference selections and coach nominations. The Grey team will be managed by 5A North coach of the year, Bishop Manogue’s Charles Oppio. Reno High head coach Pete Savage is the skipper for the White team.
The game will include 5A North relief pitcher of the year Jackson Mathews (Reno) and several first-team all-region selections, including P Jaxon McCann (McQueen), 2B Kyle Glenn (Manogue), 3B Adrian Pike (Reno) and Troy Riley (Reno), who are expected to participate.
Seniors made up the vast majority of the top all-league honors. Bishop Manogue two-way star Keenan Dolan was named the 5A North player of the year. He led the league in home runs, slugging percentage and RBIs. As a pitcher, Dolan’s 0.78 ERA ranked third in the league.
Reed’s Chase Spencer was named the pitcher of the year after he led the 5A North with 63 strikeouts. The offensive player of the year was Manogue’s Nate Lemieux while Spanish Springs’ Tyson McNeil won defensive player of the year honors.
The Cougars claimed the 5A North regional title after beating the Miners in the championship game. Both teams made the state tournament where Manogue fell to Bishop Gorman in the 5A state title game last Saturday.
