Though we hadn’t heard much about Into The Unwell since its Summer Game Fest 2025 debut, it has remained one of the most eye-catching upcoming indies on our list. This week, we’ve learned the game will arrive in 2027 instead of later this year. But at least there’s a good bit of news, too.
Coffee Stain Publishing and developer She Was Such A Good Horse jointly announced the delay on 18th May (and in comedic fashion): “Following a cartoonishly hilarious accident involving drink cans and bubblegum, the action roguelite about heavily medicated misfits is moving away from its 2026 Early Access launch, and into a full release coming next year.”

The studio – “summoned in 2021 by five murderously creative veterans from all over the Malmö game scene” – also elaborated on the delay in its own particular way with a new trailer that’s equal parts confusing and hilarious. While the release window shift might annoy folks who played the closed beta a while back, going with full releases versus lengthy early access periods is something that’s paid off for other indies in the past.
“Våffeldagen is one of the most important holidays in Sweden. But since we’re not that great at cleaning, I tripped on the massive pile of beer cans left after the festivities. Smashing the Early Access disc in the fall,” said Mårten Stockhaus, Creative Director on Into The Unwell. “The good news is that Coffee Stain is paying us to glue the disc back together! Also, I’m fine by the way, thanks for asking. So anyway, full release sometime in 2027.” These quotes are all part of the official press release we got, in case you were wondering.
