Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals between the San Antonio Spurs and the Minnesota Timberwolves will be played on Friday, May 15.

The Spurs and Timberwolves entered Game 5 with the series tied 2-2. San Antonio picked up the crucial win and now has a chance to clinch the series on Friday night. With a win, the Spurs would advance to the Western Conference finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

San Antonio center Victor Wembanyama missed the second half of Game 4 due to his first-half ejection resulting from a flagrant foul. He wasn’t suspended and returned with a vengeance in Game 5. He finished with 27 points and an impressive 17 rebounds. Sixth Man of the Year Keldon Johnson also had a big game with 21 points off the bench.

Minnesota couldn’t get into a groove in the 126-97 loss to San Antonio. Guard Anthony Edwards finished with 20 points, and Julius Randle notched a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Timberwolves’ largest lead of the game was just two points, and it came with 10:20 left in the first quarter, when they were up 5-3. Once the Spurs took a 7-5 lead with 10 minutes left in the first, they did not give it back and went on to win by 29 points.

Dylan Harper was the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft by the Spurs. He played in 69 games during his rookie campaign and averaged 11.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.

Harper has come off the bench throughout the postseason, but has carved a little niche for himself.

The rookie has shown he is not afraid of contact and has thrown down some physical dunks throughout the series and the postseason.

The Spurs won Game 5 handily, 126-97. While you can point to many disparities in the blowout win, one of the areas where San Antonio dominated Minnesota was in bench scoring.

Keldon Johnson came off the bench for the Spurs and dropped 21 points, while Dylan Harper scored 12. All told, the San Antonio bench was responsible for 44 of the team’s 126 points.

The Timberwolves were led by Naz Reid off the bench, who had 12 points. Four other players combined to add 11 points for a total of 23 from the bench over the course of the game.

While 44 points to 23 points doesn’t seem like the biggest determining factor of the game’s outcome, some extra help from the Minnesota bench would certainly have helped close the gap in the game, and could be a way that the Timberwolves make up ground on Friday night.

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama went off in Game 5 after only getting to play in the first half of the Spurs’ Game 4 loss.

Webanyama was ejected following a flagrant two foul call in the first half, but the NBA opted for no further punishment, allowing the big man to return in Game 5.

The Spurs center responded by scoring 27 points in the game, with 21 coming in the first half. If that wasn’t enough, Wembanyama added 17 rebounds and five assists.

When Friday began, it looked like both teams had clean bills of health for the game. As of the 12 p.m. ET NBA injury report, the only player listed from either team was Minnesota’s Donte DiVincenzo due to his right Achilles tendon tear suffered in April.

The 2 p.m. ET injury report was released, and a change was made. Minnesota added Terrence Shannon Jr. as questionable due to a head contusion.

Shannon played 17 minutes in Game 5 and finished with two points and four assists.

For the first time in this Western Conference semifinals matchup, a team has a chance to clinch the series.

The San Antonio Spurs head into Game 6 with a 3-2 series lead and are one win away from meeting the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.

After a blowout loss in Game 5, the Minnesota Timberwolves return home, but are now in must-win territory. If the Timberwolves win, the series goes back to San Antonio for Game 7 on Sunday.

If Minnesota loses, its season is over.
