Am I the only one who feels Mythic Dark Shepherd deserves a rerun much sooner than expected?
The more time passes, the more convinced I am that this operator ended up becoming one of the most underappreciated Mythics CODM has released.
When it originally dropped, the timing honestly worked against it. A lot of players were already drained from consecutive expensive draws, others simply weren’t active during that season, and some people underestimated how well the skin would age compared to newer Mythic releases.
But looking back now, Dark Shepherd still has a level of presence that many recent operators just don’t. The visual direction feels more cohesive, the darker aesthetic actually gives the character personality instead of relying purely on effects, and the voice work and animations feel surprisingly polished even by today’s standards.
I’ve also noticed that every time people discuss Mythic operators that genuinely felt memorable, Dark Shepherd keeps coming up despite not receiving nearly as much exposure as some of the more heavily marketed releases.
And realistically speaking, an early rerun would probably make perfect sense commercially as well. There’s clearly a large group of players who either missed the draw entirely or didn’t realise at the time how sought-after the operator would become later on.
CODM has brought back highly requested content before, so this wouldn’t exactly be unprecedented.
