It’s hard to imagine that it’s been nearly six years since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released on December 7, 2018. Shortly after the release of the last DLC character for the game, Sora, the developers dropped patch 13.0.1, which featured the final fighter adjustments.
With the developers no longer updating the game, the meta is now exclusively being impacted by the players themselves. Over the years, four “official” UltRank tier lists have been created, with the most recent one being released on May 6, 2026.
Like all other tier lists before it, Steve is considered to be the undisputed best character. As a result, he resides in the S+ tier category.
However, it’s interesting to note that more characters than ever now occupy the same tier group as Steve. In previous tier lists, no more than two other fighters were able to get into the same ranking as Steve himself.
With this latest tier list, Steve is now forced to share his tier with Sonic, Snake, Mr. Game & Watch, Kazuya, Min Min and R.O.B. Meanwhile, the S- group consists of Diddy Kong, Fox, Joker, Yoshi, Luigi, Peach, Daisy and Pyra & Mythra.
Not much has changed for the bottom tier characters as Ganondorf and Little Mac are still perceived as being the overall worst characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Of course, Belmont has also fallen off due to his lackluster recovery.
