Supercell is set to acquire Metacore, pulling Merge Mansion “into its live games portfolio.”
Merge Mansion, Metacore’s inaugural game, launched in 2020 and has since been downloaded by over 60 million players. A merge 2 mystery puzzle game, it tasks you with renovating the neglected family estate as you explore and uncover the secrets hidden within.
Metacore claims the mobile hit has generated around $700 million. Supercell believes the game “could be loved by even more players.”
“Merge Mansion has a strong core that players have genuinely loved for over five years, built by a team that pioneered the merge 2 category itself,” said Ilkka Paananen, CEO of Supercell.
“I believe Merge Mansion’s best days are still ahead. With Supercell’s experience turning around and scaling global live games, alongside our capabilities in live operations and user acquisition, we can help it climb back to the top of its category – where it belongs.”
Metacore CEO Mika Tammenkoski added: “I truly believe Supercell is the best future home for Merge Mansion. It’s an amazing game, and it deserves the best possible chance to succeed going forward.”
Paananen was recently awarded a BAFTA Fellowship at this year’s BAFTA Game Awards.
