I built my rig 10 years ago. Since it was my first time building a PC I trusted a family friend to guide me through it. PC worked well, and 4 years ago I even overclocked the cpu (i5 6600k) so never felt the need to change the paste. Sure along the years temps became worse but it is to be expected with the normal wear of the cooler (Enermax Liqmax II).

Well unfortunately yesterday it suddenly started overheating. After login it froze and after rebooting -> bios temps were ~75C. Well fml. So hoping for the best I bought new thermal paste and surprise! Found this mf over here. Fml #2. And guess who seated the cooler (I’m grateful to the guy, he helped me for free and I was just a kid, but still).

Anyway, unfortunately removing the peel and changing paste allow me to login successfully but I can’t do more heavy stuff without overheating. Fml #3.

I’m gonna buy a new cooler this weekend unless one of you fellas has any advice I could try before that (of course I already did the usual, like dusting and reseating it).
