2XKO dropped its latest big update last week with Akali, but something broke in the game during the process.

Riot Games announced today they have discovered the root cause of a bad glitch impacting the fighting game’s matchmaking, however, they need to disable an important feature as a workaround for now.

After the new patch, players began reporting issues of online matches getting stuck at the loading screen.

This would apparently go on infinitely until the game was closed, and it was severe enough for the developers to take some drastic measures.

Riot discovered the glitch is tied to 2XKO’s match spectating, so they’re completely disabling the feature for now as they work on a fix.

It may be weeks until spectating functionality returns to the game, however, as their post states they’ll unlikely be able to get it back online until the next update though that could still change.

hey all, good news: we found the source of the loading screen freezes.

bad news: it’s tied to spectating games, so we’re going to have to turn spectate off for a while as we get a fix together. it’s unlikely we’ll be able to get spectate back online until our next patch, but…

Riot previously revealed they are expanding their content releases for 2026 in 2XKO with an additional character and a new Fuse.

At that time, they stated that the next update with said Fuse is scheduled to come sometime in May, so we’ll probably be waiting until then for the fix to be implemented.

2XKO’s online spectating feature is arguably the best in the genre right now since it allows players to view ongoing games without the need to leave the lobby and load a full feed as you walk up to cabinets or the main screen.

This glitch will impact upcoming online 2XKO tournaments specifically because it’s going to be much more difficult to stream matches without the built-in spectating feature.

The Fighting Game Community is creative, however, so organizers will likely find some workarounds themselves like requiring players to stream their matches for events.

That’s obviously not ideal, but something like that will have to do for now.

It also comes after 2XKO launched a novel program to support online and local tournaments with in-game prizes.

Hopefully the team finds a fix sooner than they’re expecting at the moment.
