The SNK World Championship 2026 first announced back in December with the lineup of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, The King of Fighters 15, Samurai Shodown and Art of Fighting 3. Just last night, however, it was revealed that The King of Fighters ’98 would also be part of that lineup.

Similar to Art of Fighter 3’s prize pool, The King of Fighters ’98 will have $100,000 up for grabs for those that perform well during the circuit. This extends the total prize pool of the SNK World Championship 2026 from $4,100,000 to $4,200,000.

As implied by the title of the game, The King of Fighters ’98 was originally released back in 1998. Indeed, it’s been nearly 28 years since then.

The trailer has indicated that addition of The King of Fighters ’98 marks the “return of a masterpiece.” There are plenty of players that still compete in the game to this day.

It’s worth highlighting that the first tournament of the SWC 2026 started with Frosty Faustings back on January 29. The latest SWC 2026 event is being held in Texas Showdown 2026.

The King of Fighters ’98 events for the SWC 2026 circuit are said to be “open tournaments,” meaning that anybody can enter.
