In 2025, the gaming industry in Germany saw a 4% rise, reaching €9.4 billion, primarily due to increased sales of console hardware, notably with the introduction of the Nintendo Switch 2.
This growth is highlighted in a report from the German Games Industry Association (Game), utilizing information provided by YouGov and Sensor Tower.
Overall, hardware revenue saw a 12% upswing to €3.4 billion, with console sales alone hitting €1 billion, marking a 26% increase. The market for gaming PCs experienced a 7% rise, achieving €651 million, spurred by the release of the ROG Xbox Ally.
Gaming PC accessories climbed 13% to €1.4 billion, encompassing items like graphics cards, input devices, monitors, and VR headsets. Conversely, there was a decline in console accessories with sales dropping by 10% to €360 million.
Revenue from online gaming services saw a 7% year-over-year increase, exceeding €1 billion for the first time. In 2024, this space generated €967 million, representing a growth of more than twice since €461 million in 2019.
However, game sales slightly fell by 1%, totaling €5 billion compared to €4.9 billion in 2025, whereas the computer and video games segment decreased by 13% to €807 million.
Felix Falk, managing director of Game, stated, “The German games market is back on track for growth, and once again it is innovation above all that is driving this momentum.”
Falk added, “Increased sales of game consoles, driven by new devices, and of online gaming services demonstrate the strong interest in new gaming offerings.”
The data underscores changes in gaming habits in Germany. Revenue from individual game sales is substantially declining, while in-game and in-app transactions see slight growth at a significantly higher level.
“Some games have become genuine long-running hits: over the years, they have built up a huge community that is regularly supplied with new content and remains loyal to ‘their’ game. Many online gaming services also regularly feature new games, meaning that fewer new titles are purchased overall,” Falk elaborated.
