CARLISLE, Pa. – The Dickinson softball team got RBIs from six different players and used a strong pitching performance by Abby Kohan to secure a 6-4 win in game one against Elizabethtown College on Tuesday afternoon. However, the Red and White were upended by the Blue Jays 10-3 in the nightcap.

Inside the Game

Dickinson had a great chance to get the first run of the game in the last of the first when with one down Jane Lloyd smacked a triple to left. Amelia Plescia and Erin McMahon were then retired by Benner to end the frame.
Kohan returned to the circle for the top of second and allowed a single two-out single to Maddie Reever, before forcing Emily Bittner to groundout for the last out. With one gone in the home-half, Aubrey Gilbert tripled to deep center and then was driven home when Kohan helped her own cause with a base hit to left making it 1-0. Walks to Jackie Adler and Alex Johnson filled the bags, but Lloyd lined out.
The top of the third saw Morgan Carr single, fortunately, though for DC Kohan setdown the ensuing three batters to keep the lead 1-0. Singles by Plescia and McMahon opened the last of the frame and thanks to an error with Goldman at-bat the pillows were filled with Devils for Gilbert. She plated one with a single, before later on the duo of Adler and Jessie Sandusky produced bases loaded walks to plate two more (4-0). However, the Red and White were not done as Lloyd picked up an RBI single to make it 5-0 entering the fourth.
Kohan continued to be the story in the circle posting two strikeouts and a flyout to retire the Jays during the fourth. Unfortunately, during that inning she had one batter reach on an error and gave up a double to Lily Baldwin who cut the margin to 5-1. Julia Bergen who took over for Benner late in the third retired the Devils in order to provide a much needed shutdown frame.
The score stayed that way until the sixth when EC was able to get to Kohan. With two down and one on, doubles by Baldwin and Reever along with a single for Brooke Huczko resulted in three more coming home (5-4). Dickinson pulled one back during the home portion as Lloyd led off with a free pass, before Goldman ripped an RBI single.
Emory Hadden secured another save by retiring three of the four hitters she faced in the seventh closing out the 6-4 win.

Inside the Game

The visitors got on the board early against McMahon using a Baldwin double and Reever single to take a 1-0 lead through the top of the first. Sandusky began the home-half with a double to center, but Leshak retired the ensuing three hitters.
After a scoreless second, singles by Lexi O’Brien and Hannah Long gave way to a one out two-bagger for Huczko which drove home one. The next batter was Reever who popped up to second. During that same play Long broke for home, but was thrown out to stall the threat. The Jays continued to produce offense into the fourth using six hits to help plate five more extending their lead to 7-0 with four in the books. They would add one more during the fifth when Morgan Carr was hit by a pitch with the bags full.
Dickinson finally cracked the board against Leshak in the last of the frame as a leadoff walk to Kohan set the stage for Hadden to drive her in with a single. However, back-to-back groundouts allowed no more runs to score. A Lloyd single and walk to Plescia gave DC two runners with no out in the sixth. After the next two hitters were retired, Kohan and Johnson notched RBI base hits to cut the deficit down to 8-3.
An error and a pair of doubles let two more cross in the top of the seventh to set the 10-3 final result.
