Selection Sunday is upon us and March Madness just around the corner. It’s crunch time in the final conference tournaments around the country.
In the SEC this season, it was all about Florida and whether the Gators will run it back with another national title. They looked strong entering the SEC tournament only to get routed by Vanderbilt in the semifinals. Now, it’s up to the NCAA tournament selection committee to decide whether to award them a No. 1 seed.

Vanderbilt, meanwhile, is projected to be a No. 4 seed when the bracket is announced later on Sunday. The Commodores started off the season red-hot with a 16-0 record, but losses started to pile up during a midseason lull. No matter; they’re back to their winning ways as we head into March Madness.

Taking on Vandy in the SEC title game is Arkansas, which needed overtime to end No. 15 seed Ole Miss’ miracle run on Saturday. The Razorbacks are led by NBA prospect Darius Acuff Jr., who has averaged 22.2 points per game this season, but John Calipari has talent all over the floor with this team. Arkansas plays at a breakneck pace and ranks third in the country in scoring, averaging 90 points per game.

Both teams are putting on an entertaining show of shotmaking and playmaking. The only difference in the half was Darius Acuff Jr.’s 3-pointer with four seconds left.
The teams went back and forth for much of the half.
Billy Richmond III has 14 points for Arkansas at the half while Acuff has 12. Tyler Nickel led Vandy with 13 points and Duke Miles has 12.

Duke Miles came up with an amazing steal then went behind his back while driving for a tough layup. He followed that by grabbing a long rebound and turning it into another transition basket.

Duke Miles and Tyler Nickel bury back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Commodores a slight edge heading into the first timeout.
Vandy fans hope that’s a good sign for Nickel, who came into Sunday having made only 7 of his previous 35 threes in the past five games.

Arkansas’ Darius Acuff Jr. is projected to be a top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft and has totaled 61 points in his two SEC tournament games.
Tyler Tanner and Duke Miles have combined to total 84 points and 24 assists in the Commodores’ two tourney victories.

The Rebels came oh-so-close to winning a fourth SEC tourney game in as many days and advancing to the championship. At No. 15, they were already the lowest-seeded team to reach the SEC semifinals.
Ole Miss had lost 12 of 13 games entering the tournament. AJ Storr led the Rebels with 24 points, including a layup at the end of regulation that sent the game into OT.

The Razorbacks survived to beat Ole Miss in overtime and reach the SEC tournament championship game.
Barely.
Poor free-throw shooting by Arkansas allowed the Rebels to send the game into OT — and then almost win it.
Down two, AJ Storr pulled up for a 3-pointer and the potential game-winner but missed. Arkansas split another pair of FTs and Travis Perry’s desperation heave at the buzzer clanged off the backboard.
Maleek Thomas led Arkansas with 29 points and Darius Acuff Jr. scored 24.

After Arkansas split a pair of free throws, the Rebels inbounded down two with 5.8 seconds left. Storr took it from there.
