Valve released a fresh update to Proton Experimental for March 13th that bring numerous fixes to various games – here’s all the details you need to know.

What is Proton Experimental? It’s like a staging ground for faster updates to their Windows -> Linux compatibility layer for gaming. There’s a bit less testing, and sometimes there’s breakages. But eventually after a while all the updates get rolled out to a numbered Proton version like the latest stable version being Proton 10.0-4. See more about all the Proton versions in the GamingOnLinux guide.

For the update to Proton Experimental from March 13th all the changes are:

Disabled Xalia for Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII Remastered as the launcher support controllers natively.
Fixed graphical gliches in Duck Game that happen with newer Wine Mono versions.
Fixed REDLauncher (e.g. as seen with Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3) taking a long time to exit.
Fixed a crash in HELLDIVERS 2 happening in high enemy-count missions.
Fixed Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & The Envisioned Land crashing when playing videos in the tutorials.
Fixed random hangs in Killer Inn.
Fixed Killer Inn not launching on Steam Decks and other machines with /tmp sizes lower than 10GB.
Fixed Killer Inn not being able to connect to Square Enix account.
