DELAND, Fla. – North Florida Baseball fell in Game 1 of its weekend series at Stetson, 7-2, to open Atlantic Sun Conference play at Conrad Park on Friday.
Sophomore utility player Seth Alford belted his third home run of the season in the top of the eighth inning. Alford’s two-run homer cut North Florida’s deficit to 6-2. He finished 1-3 with two RBI, one home run and one run.
Redshirt junior utility player Boone Hosey and junior infielder Mitchell Collins added one single each on the night, respectively. Hosey improved his on-base streak to 10 games and has now tallied a hit in four straight games.
Freshman right-handed pitcher Jeremiah Stewart dealt 3.0 innings out of the bullpen and allowed just one run on four hits with three strikeouts.
Stetson scored one run in the first inning, five in the third and one in the eighth to bring the score to its eventual final margin.
