Over the past weekend, our beloved men’s Green Wave baseball took a trip to Fort Worth, Texas, and duked it out with the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs.
Tulane University fell behind early on Friday after No. 17-ranked TCU scored three runs in the first two innings and later won the game opener 10-2 with a grand slam in the seventh inning. Tulane’s Trey Cehajic pitched six innings with five strikeouts, while Jason Wachs led with two hits.
Tulane made a gnarly comeback on Sunday against the Horned Frogs and won the first game of the doubleheader 8-4. The Green Wave landed six runs in the seventh and ninth innings to secure the comeback.
Jason Wachs and Nolan Nawrocki each drove in three runs, while J.D. Rodriquez earned the win in relief. Not only was it the first win over TCU since 2024, but it also tied up the series and set a positive tone for the next game.
Unfortunately, the Green Wave could not carry the momentum forward, losing the third game 4-3 despite scoring the first run of the game and almost completing a rally in the final inning. TCU’s Preston Gamster hit a two-run home run in the second inning, putting them in the lead for most of the game.
Tulane had a spectacular start yesterday against the No. 3-ranked Mississippi State University Bulldogs, but ultimately fell 11-7. Tulane delivered a fantastic start — scoring two runs in the first inning and later leading with a two-run home run from Nate Johnson. Tulane continued to lead going into the seventh, scoring three more runs.
But as they say, “all good things must come to an end,” which was proved in the bottom of the seventh when the Bulldogs drove seven runs, complemented by Ace Reese’s four-run home run that yanked the lead from Tulane.
Despite the unfortunate losses this past week, Tulane held its own against two of the top teams in the nation and showed some incredible offensive energy throughout the early innings.
Looking ahead, the Green Wave will take on the Creighton University Bluejays in this weekend’s series on Friday, March 13, through Sunday, March 15.
