After eight months of mostly silence, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls finally revealed Wolverine, Magik and Danger as the newest characters, and the game is apparently quite a bit different than what we got our hands on last year.
Arc System Works has been making some big gameplay changes to Marvel Tokon following player feedback from the first two closed beta tests, which we can now see more of in action.
Previously, eagle-eyed fans spotted apparent mechanical changes made in the X-Men trailer, which was confirmed by the Marvel Producer and revealed there was even more not shown off there.
ArcSys then released a video highlighting 10 of the most notable gameplay shifts they’ve made, including a bunch for assists / tags.
Now, the team has released an almost minute-long showcase of some of Tokon’s adjustments as well as the latest characters in action.
Danger is the first one up to bat with what looks to be a flying dash along with attacks that change her appendages into various tools / weapons, a side-switching combo that makes the opponent airborne and her teleport.
Wolverine doesn’t have much to show except an air-dash mixup with the new assist changes and how punishable his claw slash barrage is if it’s blocked.
Magik didn’t bring anything to the meal here unfortunately besides how she looks blocking and one of her assists being a pretty straightforward sword slash.
As for the changes they’re showing off in the clip, each assist type can now be triggered by canceling an attack.
Said assist will now appear behind the main character faster than before.
There’s more on display too including using the grounded assists while in the air to keep juggle combos going longer and providing better mixup coverage.
The recruited trio of X-Men as well as the gameplay changes are going to be playable for the first time in a new Marvel Tokon demo showing up at the Arc World Tour Finals later this month followed by other public events.
So we’ll soon learn more about how different the game feels compared to the first betas.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is currently scheduled to release on August 6, 2026 for the PlayStation 5 and PC, and we recently put together a Marvel Tokon pre-order and pricing guide going over all of the content available between the different editions.
You can check out the new Marvel Tokon gameplay footage below.
Each Assist type can now be triggered via cancelling an attack.
In addition, the assist character will now appear from behind the main character when using Cancel Assist and is also sped up accordingly with the screen freeze time adjustment.
