I have been back into the streets for a couple of days now, hopefully nothing else will disrupt my playthrough this time (I am re-running the same one for like, the 4th time – it's nuts). And while going through the prologue, enjoying the good ol' chemistry with Jackie, I started to wonder. How good was he, truly, as a merc?
But especially, how good was he, compared to V? I mean, I am no lore master, far from it, but I believe it's commonly known that V was an absurdly good merc. And that's exactly what sparked my thought – Jackie is one of the few people that actively worked with V, from the very beginning, and, if we suspend our disbelief with all the AI jankiness of Cyberpunk NPCs, he was at the very least keeping up with him in their gigs. I doubt their relationship as partners revolved around V doing all the heavy lifting and Jackie being a sand bag, so I have to immagine that he was also pulling his weight!
Which also leads me to ask, how far would have Jackie gone without meeting V? Did he have the potential to hit the major leagues? Or even, become a Night City legend on his own? What was his glass cieling?
I legit don't know enough about the lore to have the answers to these questions, but my nose tells me that he could have been a damn good merc, maybe even have his name on a couple of chrome lips or two at the After Life, but probably never reach the status of a legend.
