The fighting game fan development community has been on fire lately in a good way, and there’s no shortage of cool projects to take a look at.

One we previously got to see in action was the impressive unnamed Persona 5 fighting game project last year, and now the community can get a glimpse as to how its progressing.

The apparently lone developer Blur had been quiet on social media for quite some time, but he came back this new year to show off more of what he’s been cooking up.

Blur’s previous updated footage revealed gun moves as well as new UI elements, which he’s advanced further on now.

There’s an actual SP Gauge now like Persona 4 Arena as well as a bullet counter display, but that’s not all.

We can also see a new meter under the health bar too, and while we don’t know exactly what it does, it appears to be connected to a new burst / limit break system that temporarily makes your character stronger.

Of course there’s also plenty of cool combos and attacks on display.

Joker is still the only playable character in this work-in-progress project, but the creator did tease Makoto last year with some footage though said he won’t move on to her until the Persona 5 protagonist is complete.

Blur has been working on this P5 fan-game for well over a year now, however, there’s no playable public build of the project available for others to try out yet.

As for the official series, it sounded like Persona 5 Arena was almost a sure thing nearly a decade ago, but the prospect is looking pretty slim now.

Arc System Works is currently busier than ever with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls on the horizon while they also continue to support Guilty Gear Strive, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising and whatever else they may have going on behind the scenes right now — so it seems Persona 5 Arena has missed its chance.

On top of this, we also recently got the chance to see an upgraded build of Sega vs. Capcom as well as a Square vs. Capcom public demo release for fan fighting game projects.

The Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 modding community is remaining busy too with the release of some new characters including the classic Jin Saotome.

And if you couldn’t tell from my profile picture, I’m very interested to eventually try out this Persona 5 fan project for myself.
