Macau’s gaming regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), reported industry-wide gross gaming revenue of MOP$20.6 billion (US$2.56 billion) in February, representing a 4.5% increase compared to the same month last year.

The figure was, however, down from the MOP$22.6 billion (US$2.80 billion) in GGR reported in January – despite enjoying the benefit of the nine-day Chinese New Year Golden Week holiday.

As reported by Inside Asian Gaming, analysts had warned that the first half of Golden Week had been somewhat subdued for Macau’s concessionaires although gaming volumes picked up substantially during the second half of the holiday period.

The February result had therefore hinged on the strength of the Golden Week “tail”.
