CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Central Michigan Softball split the two games on day two of the trip to Tennessee. The Chippewas move to 6-8 on the season while the Skyhawks shift to 0-7 and Austin Peay advanced to 10-8.
Game one ended 7-2 with the only two runs for Stonehill being via home runs, and the Governors defeated CMU 9-1 in five innings.
The Chippewas will finish the trip with a game against Southern Indiana on Sunday at 11 a.m. (ET)/10 a.m. (CT).
Game 1
Aubrey Strelow, the freshman left hander for the Chippewas threw her first complete game and grabbed a career high seven strikeouts against Stonehill. Stonehill recorded just two hits off Strelow, both being solo home runs.
CMU got on the board in the first inning scoring five runs. The first run came when Angela Petrovitch scored on an RBI double from Grace Koenig to left field. Emma Lotus then collected an RBI on a single to right field that scored Jenna Kuzara. Tori Briggs then hit a long ball over the left field fence to plate three Chippewas – Lotus and Rachel Cairo.
In the first inning, CMU scored five runs on five hits.
Another run scored when Petrovitch singled to the pitcher and Ashley Bila scored via error by the Skyhawks. The final run for Central Michigan came when Cairo was out attempting to steal, but London Williams scored on the first and third situation.
The Skyhawks hit their home runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
Overall, Central Michigan totaled 10 hits, scored seven runs and struck out just two times. Petrovitch led the team going 3-3, Kuzara had two hits as well as Lotus.
Game 2
In the second game, Central Michigan was outscored 9-1 in five innings.
The Governors scored in the second inning with a solo home run, but Central Michigan tied the game in the top of the third with an RBI single from Angela Petrovitch that scored Ashley Bila from second, who reached on a double of her own.
Austin Peay tallied three runs in the bottom of the inning in response, two in the fourth, and ultimately walked the game off in the fifth with and RBI single to left field.
Brooklyn Compau took the loss for CMU, after Mackenzie Langan charted the start. Langan threw the first and second innings, and Compau threw two outs of the third before being relieved by Cierra Laska. Langan returned to the game in the in the fifth inning to face the final batter.
Central Michigan will next face Southern Indiana for their final game in Tennessee.
