Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has moved into its second season, and the game just received its latest big update this week.
To celebrate the release of Nightmare Geese, SNK dropped a new animation for the special ocassion, and it’s quite a bit longer than usual.
The developers once again employed the help of the iconic animator Masami Obari, who previously worked on the original Fatal Fury films in the ’90s.
This one appears to be something of a continuation of City of the Wolves’ story with Rock Howard facing off against the apparition of his father to display the boy’s spirit of the wolf.
We’re also treated to some flashbacks of not just the original Fatal Fury with Terry taking down Geese, but what set the whole thing in motion too.
They included a scene in the past of Geese killing Jeff Bogard in front of the young Terry and Andy, who swear themselves to revenge and taking him down.
It does make us wonder, however, why SNK didn’t go this route for their Season 2 announcement and avoided the AI video controversy when they had something like this in their pocket.
But it is still cool to see that they’re still working closely with Obari and making even longer productions now.
Seeing Jeff Bogard here is also interesting considering we just asked Fatal Fury’s Director about his possible inclusion as a fighter in our most recent interview.
Obari has previously worked on a handful of animations for City of the Wolves including Chun-Li vs. Mai Shiranui and Wolfgang Krauser’s teaser, and the animator has voiced his interest in new theatrical releases too with Samurai Shodown in particular catching his eye.
You can check out the full animation from Obari below.
