DAYTON – The University of Dayton will play its first midweek game of the season, hosting Toledo on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
First pitch will be at 3 p.m. at Woerner Field at AES Ohio. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
ATLANTIC 10 WEEKLY AWARD RECAP
In the second week of the season, Dayton brought home two of the three weekly Atlantic 10 awards after sweeping Eastern Kentucky. Danny MacDougall was named A-10 Player of the Week, with Jason Bello earning Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week.
MacDougall went 7-for-11, notching four doubles, three runs scored and five stolen bases. Bello hit two home runs in the team’s first win over the Colonels, scoring six runs and recording four RBI.
SCOUTING TOLEDO
Toledo is 1-5 this season, winning their season opener against Memphis, falling in the next two games to the Tigers and in the three-game series against Jacksonville State. Toledo was selected fourth in the Mid-American Conference Coaches Poll.
Cade Baker leads the Rockets with a .423 batting average. Jacob Payne has a .529 slugging percentage, leading the team with 5 runs batted in. Toledo’s pitching staff is led by Nathan Leininger with a 1.50 ERA. Cole Giesige, the Rockets’ projected starting pitcher, has a 9.00 ERA in one appearance this season.
LAST MEETING
Dayton and Toledo have met 26 times, most recently in 2024. That last meeting was at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium, where the FlyBoys won 6-2.
Michael Fortes earned the save in the win, striking out two batters in 1.2 innings pitched.
LAST TIME OUT
In the Flyers’ last outing, Dayton won all three games at home against Eastern Kentucky, outscoring the Colonels 32-17.
The FlyBoys stole a combined nine bases and tallied eight home runs. The team’s pitching staff recorded 25 strikeouts, with Austin McNabb leading the team with six strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Flyers will play a split series against Ohio on Feb. 27-March 2. The first two games of the series will be played at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens, Ohio. The games on March 1-2 will be at home.
