WASHINGTON, PA – The Golden Knights had a Sunday full of success, taking down both Penn State Behrend and Grove City in a Sunday doubleheader in Washington, PA. The wins improve the Golden Knights to 2-4 on the season. 

In game one, GU jumped out to a 5-0 advantage and never game up the lead. Kerstyn Farley (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) & Maria Martinez (Barcelona, Spain/Jesuïtes Gràcia Col·legi Kostka) led the team with four goals, while Ana Carrera (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) & Emma O’Gorman (Johannesburg, South Africa/St Stithians College) each tallied a hat trick. 

The second game featured more from the Gannon offense. GU tallied their highest goal output of the season, tallying 26 for a two game total of 47 total goals. GU would score 16 times in the middle two periods to pull ahead from Grove City. 

THE KNIGHT CAP – GAME 1


Hot Start – Gannon would score the first five goals of the game and held an 11-5 lead at the break. Maria Martinez (Barcelona, Spain/Jesuïtes Gràcia Col·legi Kostka) had two goals during the first period, while Emily Feenstra (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) notched back to back tallies before the Lions got their first goal. 
Hat Trick Plus- While Ana Carrera (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) and Emma O’Gorman (Johannesburg, South Africa/St Stithians College) each tallied three goals, it was Kerstyn Farley (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) and Maria Martinez (Barcelona, Spain/Jesuïtes Gràcia Col·legi Kostka) who found the net four times each. Middle Frame Madness – GU pulled away with eight goals each in the second and third periods. After falling behind 3-1 in the first, the Golden Knights would outscore Grove City by a combined 19-7 score until the start of the fourth period. 
Oh My Maria – What a start to Maria Martinez’s (Barcelona, Spain/Jesuïtes Gràcia Col·legi Kostka) freshman campaign. The first year scored six more times in the victory, bringing her goal total on the season to 14, leading the squad.
Claudia Clobbers – In her best game of the season, Claudia Orte Blanch (Madrid, Spain/IES Profesor Maximo Trueba) tallied five goals to lead the team on six total shots. That mark is a career high for the sophomore, who hadn’t scored more than two goals in a single game until Sunday. 
Carissa Lights The Lamp – Carissa Jones (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) also scored five times in game two for a total of seven across the two game stretch.

THE NEXT MEET

The Golden Knights will return to Erie, PA for the Curtis Robinette Invitational on February 28th and March 1st. The two Saturday games include contests against La Salle (10:30 am) followed by a matchup with Saint Francis (3:00 pm).
