History
DAVIS, Calif. — Loretta Hovey and Eliza Harlow showed that the UC Santa Barbara Women’s Water Polo team’s two-week break did nothing to cool off their scoring hands on Saturday, as both Gauchos put up their second multi-goal performance in as many games against UC Davis. The pair accounted for two-thirds of their team’s goals in the first Big West contest of the season, a 14-6 win for the Aggies.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0 in the second quarter, the Gauchos began their climb back with Harlow’s first goal of the contest. After a late Aggie goal, Hovey scored even later — with just three seconds left in the first half — to bring some momentum back to Santa Barbara’s side. She made that momentum stick by scoring the first goal after the interval too, her 15th of the season.
Hadley Hall converted a six-on-five powerplay to start off the fourth quarter and join the scoresheet for the Gauchos, and captain Cami Mras got involved with a goal just inside the four-minute mark. Harlow put home the final goal of the game, her 12th of the season (leading Santa Barbara’s freshman class), on another powerplay with just over a minute left in the game.
UP NEXT
The Gauchos will look to build on the positives from Saturday as they return home for the first time this season next weekend, hosting Cal State Fullerton next Saturday, Feb. 28.
