The 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games began on February 6. They played out across venues in Northern Italy until February 22. Around 2,900 athletes from around the world competed for Olympic gold. At press time, the medal tally was incomplete.

MEDAL COLLECTOR Norwegian cross-country skier Johannes Høsflot Klæbo competes in the men’s 4 x 7.5–kilometer relay on February 15. His team won, and he picked up his ninth Olympic gold medal. That’s a Winter Games record.

Some athletes made their Olympic debut. Seventeen-year-old Gaon Choi was a first-timer. She won gold in the women’s snowboard halfpipe. (See “Proud Moment.”) “It feels surreal,” Choi told the New York Times.
