"If you can't beat 'em, join 'em"
That's why the problem has escalated. Cheater math is basically, everytime a legit player encounters one, they have 3 decisions:
Continue playing taking the loss and seeing it lower their ranks or skill rating. This is masochism. You recognize the game isn't fair but you're going to keep playing because the challenge is enough for you. You also have to adjust your playstyle to anti-strat an all-knowing enemy.
Quit the game. This is pacifism. You recognize you're validating cheaters by trying to outplay them when they know where you are and will miss 99x less than you.
Join them. Sadism. Enough said.
This cycle plays out everytime. And guess what, people join them even if they quit or tried to grind without cheats, because why not? Valve does not take the issue seriously enough. There is zero community trust.
