A new week sees us welcome a brand new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, bringing a fresh set of three ranked online multiplayer races for players to tackle over the coming seven days.

After a little bit of an unusual line-up last week, we’re back to a regular set of events this week and the most frequent combination of races. Habitual players will know what to expect here, with a one-make road car race in the first slot, a Gr.4 race in the second, and the Gr.3 cars in the final spot.

Power/Weight/PP Limit: BOP (M)

There’s a little bit of Midnight Club going on in Race A this week, with a one-make race featuring the classic, first-generation Volkswagen Golf GTI. Midnight Golf Club, if you will.

It’s a momentum-based race, as you navigate the not-especially overpowered hot hatchback around the tight Tokyo Expressway Central Clockwise course — the squarer of the three locations, and in the normal direction — over five laps, all in relative darkness.

As usual you can borrow a car if you don’t have one, with the loaner coming on the required Comfort Medium tires. Once again we’ve got a fully ranked race, with Driver Rating and Sportsmanship Rating updates both switched on.

Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races February 16: Race B

Track: Dragon Trail Gardens – 5 laps

Car: Gr.4 – Garage/Specified Car

Power/Weight/PP Limit: BOP (M)

Tires: Racing Hard

Settings: Partially Allowed – Brake Balance

Start Type: Rolling Start

Mandatory Pit Stop: –

Fuel Multiplier: 1x

Tire Multiplier: 1x

We’ve got the Gr.4 cars up in this sprint race slot this week, and that usually means one car — or one type of car — rises to the top in pretty short order due to the tricky balancing act with the various different drivetrain types.

This week’s race is over five laps of the fictional Dragon Trail Gardens circuit, and with three very slow corners it’s a rather traction-friendly course. That’s brought the all-wheel drive cars back for the week, and a lot of players high up the leaderboard are plumping for the Atenza.

Whatever your choice, you’ll need Racing Hard tires fitted with the slippery rubber magnifying the need for traction. It’s a straightforward sprint though, so once you’ve got your car locked in it’s just a matter of going flat-out from start to finish.

Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races February 16: Race C

Track: Laguna Seca – 14 laps

Car: Gr.3 – Garage/Specified Car

Power/Weight/PP Limit: BOP (L)

Tires: Racing Medium

Settings: Specified

Start Type: Rolling Start

Mandatory Pit Stop: 1

Fuel Multiplier: 3x

Tire Multiplier: 6x

While last week’s Race C was a bit busy on the old regulations front, we’ve got a more routine Gr.3 event this week — so you’ll need to keep a pit stop in mind…

It’s a 14-lap run around Laguna Seca, making this a rare week where all three races are on different continents, with your choice of Gr.3 car. Ordinarily this is a relatively well-balanced class, but the recent addition of the 992-generation 911 GT3 R has upset that a little and it — along with the nimble BRZ GT300 — has become something of a car of choice this week.

You’ll only need the Racing Medium tires this week, so there’s no tire-change requirement, but there is a pit stop required. There’s no limitation on when you take it, other than being between the end of the first lap and the start of the final one — so don’t be tempted to dive in before the race start if you’re starting far down the grid.

Failing to take your mandatory stop will land you with a one-minute penalty at the end of the race, and watch out for the solid line at pit entry as you’ll be hit with a three-second on-track penalty if you cross it on the way in.

While you’re not required to take on new tires or any fuel, you might want to consider a tire refresh. There’s a 6x tire wear multiplier for this one, and that’s going to leave the Mediums pretty worse for wear at the end of what’s the equivalent of 84 laps of Laguna Seca. You’ll need to weigh up the short time loss in the pits against the results of running mostly red tires for the last couple of laps (at best).

Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in Gran Turismo 7. Your DR and SR are determined by your performances, updating at the end of each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, February 23.
