WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Williams College capitalized on a fast start and shot almost 60 percent from the field in the Ephs’ 81-47 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals inside Williams’ John Wesley Chandler Gymnasium on Friday night, Feb. 13.
Season Update
Hamilton (5-18, 1-8 NESCAC) dropped its sixth in a row.
Williams (12-11, 1-8) had lost its previous three games – all by double-digit margins.
How It Happened
Williams scored the first six points and led by double digits for the final 33 minutes. With 15:57 to go in the first half, Matt DeVine hit a driving layup and made the score 10-2, which forced an early timeout by Hamilton.
DeVine hit a three-pointer and boosted Williams lead to 14 points at 23-9 with 10:57 left. Just eight seconds later, Rob Cain ’28 dished a pass to Garret Keyhani ’26, who drilled a pull-up three-pointer and made the score 23-12.
Jackson Rein capped off a great passing play by the Ephs, nailing a shot from beyond the arc with 15 seconds to go and making the score 49-27 at halftime.
Halfway through the second half, the Continentals’ Ryan Torello ’29 got the ball at the top of the key, drove down the lane and finished with a tough layup plus the foul. Torello knocked down the free throw and completed the three-point play.
Wes Gudeman hit a pair of free throws for Williams with 4:46 remaining and splashed a three-pointer 46 seconds later for a 74-40 advantage. The Ephs led by as many as 37 points twice in the final minutes.
Notes
Keyhani led Hamilton with nine points.
Will Holmes ’27 came down with a team-high five rebounds, including four offensive boards.
DeVine topped all scorers with 21 points. Rein, like DeVine, made four three-pointers and finished with 16 points. Aidan Yates added 15 points and three steals. Sammy Cooley handed out five assists.
The Ephs’ defense held the Continentals to 25.8% shooting from the field including 3-of-23 from beyond the arc.
Williams was red-hot in the first half, shooting 65.5 percent from the floor including 9-of-17 from three-point range.
Hamilton outrebounded the Ephs 15-6 on the offensive glass.
