NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s basketball has its final two home games of the regular season as the Monarchs host Georgia State this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and Louisiana on Monday at 5 p.m.

Scott Jackson and Billy Mann will cover the game on ESPN+ while Ted Alexander and Dennis Wolff can be heard on ESPN Sports Radio 94.1. Live stats will also be available.

Saturday will mark a basketball doubleheader at Chartway Arena as the women’s team hosts James Madison in a TowneBank Royal Rivalry game at 1 p.m. For the men’s team, tomorrow marks Senior Day for the Monarchs as they recognize KC Shaw, LJ Thomas, Jordan Battle, Cooper Jones, and Caelum Swanton-Rodger as well as team managers Chris Jacobs and Sam Copeland. It will also be Alumni Day and ODU will retire Ronnie Valentine’s No. 42 jersey.

Tickets purchased for the women’s game also grant entry to the men’s game that follows, in a designated seating section. Seats for the women’s game are assigned, however, those same seats are not guaranteed for the men’s game. Announcements will be made during both games with instructions on which section to proceed to.

Series History

ODU leads Georgia State, 19-10 in the all-time series and is 8-3 when hosting the Panthers. GSU claimed both of last season’s meetings, winning 97-75 on Feb. 13, 2025 in Atlanta and 76-70 on Feb. 22 in Norfolk. The Monarchs and Panthers will conclude the regular season with a 7 p.m. game in Atlanta on Feb. 27.

ODU is also ahead in its all-time series with Louisiana, 3-1. The Monarchs defeated the Ragin’ Cajuns, 71-60 on Jan. 9, 2025 in Lafayette, Louisiana. The two teams then met again on March 5 in the second round of the Sun Belt Championship, with the Monarchs advancing in the tournament with a 67-49 victory.

About ODU

The Monarchs (8-18, 4-9 Sun Belt) built a 17-point lead over Marshall on Wednesday night, but could not hold off the Herd late in the second half, falling 81-79. Thomas led ODU with 18 points, five assists, and two steals. Shaw followed with 16 points, Swanton-Rodger had 15, and Jared Turner scored 11.

Shaw is ODU’s leading scorer at 16.6 ppg. Battle averages 13.8 ppg and leads the Monarchs with 59 three-pointers, 128 rebounds, 75 assists, and 38 steals. The Norfolk native is also fourth in the league with an 83.7% clip at the free-throw line. Thomas is also scoring in double figures with 11.3 ppg and owns 73 assists and 27 steals. Swanton-Rodger (7.7 ppg) has pulled down 126 boards (5.0 rpg) and blocked 35 shots.

Old Dominion comes into Saturday scoring 74.3 ppg, good for fifth in the Sun Belt, but the team allows 77.7 for a -3.3-scoring margin. The Monarchs shoot 43.1% from the floor, 33.5% from the perimeter, and 72.2% at the line. ODU ranks fourth in the SBC in turnovers per game (10.8) and is also fifth in three-point percentage defense (32%) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.18).

The Monarchs were 261st in the NET rankings through games played on Thursday.

About Georgia State

The Panthers (9-17, 6-7 Sun Belt) dropped their fifth game in a row, falling 81-79 in overtime on Thursday night. GSU’s Micah Tucker scored a jumper with 16 seconds left in the second half to tie the game at 70-70. Knotted at 79-79 with 38 seconds left in overtime, JMU’s Cliff Davis scored the decisive basket with eight seconds left. Jelani Hamilton and Micah Tucker combined for 48 points.

Hamilton is the conference leader in scoring (18.5 ppg) and free-throw shooting (88.6%) and ranks second in steals per game (1.86). GSU’s other top scorers include Tucker with 12.8 ppg and Malachi Brown’s 11.0 points per contest. Brown has made a team-high 49 threes and Hamilton isn’t far behind with 44. Joah Chappelle (7.3 ppg) pulls down 5.1 rpg and has made a team-high 19 blocks while Tucker is up to 81 assists. The Panthers’ top three scorers have also combined for 97 steals.

Georgia State has a -3.1-scoring margin as the Panthers net 71.1 ppg but allow opponents to score 74.2 ppg. GSU ranks 12th in the country with 78.1% shooting at the charity stripe. The team is also third in the Sun Belt in free throws made per game (16.9), fourth in turnover margin (0.8), and fifth in three-point attempts per game (27) and bench points per game (22.31). The Panthers shoot 38.6% from the field and 32.6% from the arc.

GSU led by fourth-year head coach Jonas Hayes and is 273rd in the NET rankings.

About Louisiana

The Ragin’ Cajuns (9-17, 6-7 Sun Belt) also started off the week with a loss, falling 69-65 at Coastal Carolina on Thursday. Jaxon Olvera hit a three to narrow the gap, 67-65 with 15 seconds left, but CCU’s Joshua Beadle made a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to seal the victory for the Chanticleers. Dorian Finister and Olvera finished with 19 points each and De’vion Lavergne added 15.

Louisiana’s top scorers include Jamyron Keller at 17.0 ppg, Finister with 14.3 ppg, and Olvera with 11.6 ppg. Olvera is the top threat from distance with 44 made threes. Finister is the leader on the glass with 126 rebounds (4.8 rpg). Lavergne owns 76 assists with 23 steals, Finister has 28 steals, and Todd Jones Jr. (3.0 ppg) has made 26 blocks.

The Cajuns are being outscored by an average of 6.5 points: they score 62.5 ppg, but are giving up 69.0 ppg, the third-fewest in the conference. The team is shooting 40.6% from the field, including 33.6% from three-point range, and 70.6% at the line.

Head coach Quannas White is in his first season. The Ragin’ Cajuns are 314th in the NET rankings.
