My third post in my all core OC adventure lol. So last week I started tuning my 9800x3D trying to see how far I could get the chip all core, you may have seen my posts. At first I got it to 5.4 and thought it was stable but upon further testing would fail/crash on some stress tests y-cruncher particularly SNT & SVT would fail, no issues with the other test in the y-cruncher suite. Long runs 1hrs plus of P95 small would also fail/crash. In other things like AIDA64 / P95 blend / Y-cruncher pie calculation & other y-cruncher tests (everything but SNT/SVT) and several hours of playing games didn’t experience issues, but I wanted full stability
First I wanted to eliminate my EXPO as a possible reason for stress test failures so I turned EXPO off so I had no RAM OC at all and retested. They still failed the same tests. At that point concluded 54.00 was not stable. I put the EXPO profile back and started lowering the multiplier by 0.25 and retesting till I found stablity also messing with LLC along the way to see if it would help. I would start with Y-cruncher full benchmark as it’s quick and SNT / SVT never both passed. Ultimately I found 53.25 multiplier to be the highest I could go while passing my now expanded full suite of stress tests/benchmarks. I than started lowering voltage and ultimately landed on 1.210v in BIOS was the lowest I could go and still hit all core 53.25 with LLC set to Auto. Personally I found LLC added to instability for me and didn’t seem to ever help. I tested a few different levels of it at various voltages along the way. I did test as lows as 1.195v but anything below 1.210v failed tests or full system crashed. As far as temps y-cruncher SNT is the only test to see 90C all other were in the mid 80s. SVT & P95 small being next next hottest.
I’m running a 9800x3D / MSI Gaming Plus WiFi / be quiet! Light Loop 360mm AIO with Artic P12 Pro push & pull fans. Push fans at 50% and pull at 55%. My suite of stress tests/benchmarks is below with times I ran them and peak temps. Assumming Reddit posts pics in the correct order list should match the pics:
– Prime95 – Small FFTs, 8hrs, 82C
– Y-Cruncher Benchmark – full suite, 26mins (stopped mid second run), 90C only during SNT. SVT was next hottest at 84C
– AIDA64 – 15hrs, 69C
– Y-Cruncher – CPU only pie calculation – option 4, about 2mins, 82C
– R23 Multicore – single run 24,002. Consistently hit 23,9xx. 24,xxx only on lucky runs. 76C forgot to pull up HWinfo for this one
– R23 Multicore – 30mins, 23,746, 76C
– Prime95 Blend – 15hrs, 80C
Things will stay here unless anyone has any suggestions or anything to try to get 54.00 fully stable I’m open to trying things beyond just bumping up the voltage! Appreciate everyone chiming in on my previous posts. It was super helpful and helped me dial things in much better especially those who: pointed out new stress tests for me to use, those who pointed out/explained LLC and those to made me aware of platform voltage limits! Much appreciated all
