Well then.

A lot of people seemed very interested in making drama happen around Ashes of Creation, but it turns out that the real drama was… apparently waiting for the very tail end of January to smack us all in the face. The dramatic reversal of the game’s fortunes going from early access to “everyone is laid off” to dramatic recountings of what happened has produced a whole pile of surprised and unexpected reactions. I am including myself in this batch; I definitely did not expect this to explode in this fashion this quickly.

It would be wrong to say that the dust has settled on this particular sequence, of course, but I think we’re all starting to recover a bit from the initial shock and think about what the game’s current status “means” in the larger sense. It’s unsure what the future of the game (if any) will be and more news is coming pretty quickly, but we can start asking questions like how we feel about all of this. So how do you feel about the AoC drama? Sad for fans? Vindicated in not backing it? Personally heartbroken? Wondering if it has a future? Kind of disbelieving? All of the above and more besides?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
