We spend a lot of time covering software sales for the latest gaming platforms. While we focus on the Nintendo side of things, the weekly (and monthly) charts also give us insight into what games are selling on platforms like Xbox Series X/S and PS4/PS5. It’s definitely interesting (and important) to know what titles people are picking up for modern hardware, but that doesn’t mean gamers have forgotten portables and consoles from years gone by.
Circana’s Mat Piscatella brings us the U.S. software sales data every month, highlighting what games are doing numbers for the current generation of systems. We recently got an update from Circana that detailed not only what sold in December 2025, but also the top titles for the year in general. Turns out there was more to that data than first shared, and it pertains to hardware that, in some cases, is decades old.
Believe it or not, Circana is tracking data for all game sales in the U.S., and that includes software for platforms that have likely been sitting in your closet for years now. Below, you can see a breakdown of games on the Wii, Wii U, 3DS, Game Boy Game Boy Color, GBA, GameCube & DS that sold exactly one copy in 2025. Now it’s likely a few of these games sold more than one copy through second-hand markets, but we’re specifically looking at data on new, boxed copies here. Crazy to think that people are still picking up brand-new titles for these legacy systems so long after they rode off into the sunset!
