What’s a Knockout Tour?
Knockout Tour is a racing mode that challenges 24 drivers to barrel through back-to-back courses across the world, with no pit stops along the way. However, there are five checkpoints to clear—if you’re below the placement shown when you hit a checkpoint, you’ll be eliminated!
So far, Knockout Tour has only allowed individuals to compete in a free-for-all race against each other. That changes with this new update: now, up to four teams can compete together!

How it works
Join up with your Nintendo Switch 2 friends in a group via local wireless or online play. With the free update, you can now set up Knockout Tour races as a two-team (12 vs. 12) race, a three-team (8 vs. 8 vs. 8) race, or a four-team (6 vs. 6 vs. 6 vs. 6) race.
If there are not enough players, CPU drivers will fill the remaining spots.

Twenty-four drivers start the race, and the bottom four are eliminated at each checkpoint along the way until only four remain.
As you approach a checkpoint, you’ll see a tally of which drivers have cleared the checkpoint in the top-right corner of the screen. Team colors will also be included to give you an idea of how each team is faring.

Near checkpoints, check the top-right corner to see who’s still in it.
After the Knockout Tour ends, the winning team is determined by the total points earned by team members. These points are awarded based on the overall placement of each driver on the team.
However! There’s a big difference in the number of points awarded in Knockout Tour team races compared to other modes.
Top finishers earn significantly more points here: you score 50 points for finishing in 1st place, 40 points for 2nd, 35 points for 3rd, and 30 points for 4th. Making it to the final four really can make a difference for your team! On the other end, the four drivers that don’t make it past the first checkpoint get a mere 1 point.

If the same team has all four drivers pass through the final checkpoint, that team will be guaranteed victory. Working as a team is key to victory! (Tip: GameChat can come in handy to help everyone co-ordinate better when you’re playing online from separate locations.)
Support your team from the sideline
If you’re eliminated, you can still watch the race until the end to see what happens. You can also switch the camera to follow the driver you want to support and choose from a list of comments to share with fellow spectators. Be a team player and cheer your side on to victory!

How to build your Friend List
Select your user icon (My Page) on your system’s HOME Menu, and then select Add Friend. From there, you can send and accept friend requests in a few ways. Pick the one that works for you and follow the instructions.
(For Mario Kart World, every system needs the game to play, but you can bring a buddy online with you if you both play on the same system. Some other games support GameShare, which allows friends to play together when only one person has the game. Pretty neat, right?)
