WOODLAND HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The Los Angeles Rams’ week 16 loss in Seattle cost them the NFC’s top seed. Now they’re returning to the Emerald City with a Super Bowl appearance on the line. The data shows this could be a very close game.
The Rams are trying to do what the 2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers did — win three straight road playoff games and win the Super Bowl.
In the history of the NFL playoffs, only five teams have won three straight road games to get to the Super Bowl, and four of those five teams went on to win the Super Bowl.
Are the Rams next?
“It is close, as far as distance traveled for us compared to any other team in the league. Correct me if I’m wrong, but we’ve been on the road, we’ve had to travel quite a bit, so basically just everything that has happened to us this year has built us up for this point in the season,” said Rams wide receiver Davante Adams.
After an emotional win on Sunday in overtime and in frigid Chicago temperatures, the Rams will now try to do what they’ve done successfully all season — stay in the moment.
Rams fans are breathing a sigh of relief after Sunday’s overtime win against the Bears in the NFL playoffs. See how fans reacted to the win.
“We’re not immune to understanding the circumstances and what the game means to the outside world, until, whether or not we get to continue keep playing football or not, but from a daily standpoint, we operate as normal and get ready to play, ” said Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.
“Controlling the things that we need to control. Having the wisdom and perspective to say, ‘Let’s lean into the things that give us the best opportunity to have successful outcomes. Let’s spend our physical, emotional, mental energy on the things that we can control and not waste our time on the things that we can’t,'” said Rams head coach Sean McVay.
This will be Adams’ fifth trip to a conference championship, but he’s still looking to get to his first Super Bowl.
“Forgive me if I’m not smiling ear to ear after the first win, the second win, just having been here so many times, understanding exactly what it takes to, you know, get where we’re ultimately trying to go,” Adams said. “It just feels almost like a mythical thing to me at this point. You do everything you can to get there, and it’s been so hard, and we’ve been working so hard at it, and we’re close, we’ve just got to finish it up.”
Speaking of close — Sunday’s game is the No. 1 offense in terms of scoring points, the Rams, versus the No.1 defense in terms of points allowed, the Seahawks.
The Rams and the Seahawks have met 57 times in history — the Seahawks have won 29 games, and the Rams have won 28.
If you think that’s close — when you add the total points, it’s 1,222 to 1,223 in Seattle’s favor.
The bottom line is: the game could be very close.
If the Rams win by one point, it will be an even match between the two teams, with the Rams headed to the Super Bowl.
