I find it just as confusing as I do fascinating that the biggest mode of one of the Top 25 best selling games in history at the time is as abandoned as it is, that being Fireteam: Dirty Bomb from Cold War

Some would scoff at this mode, others would look back at it fondly, because they saw its potential and realized that without Cold War's fundamental flaws, it's a treasure trove

Did Cold War deserve criticism for it's textures not rendering properly, sub-par matchmaking system, and sometimes even crashes? Absolutely. Did Fireteam's reputation deserve to be brought down with it? I wouldn't say that's fair

Alongside Cold War's standard complaints like the mentioned above, Fireteam was also criticized because of it's parachuting system and objective:

  • "I keep getting shot out of the sky"
  • "Enemies keep landing behind me and shooting me"
  • "The final bomb is too chaotic"

Learn to parachute lower, be more aware of your surroundings, and don't even bother with the final bomb. That's it, the complaints have been fixed

Sometimes a player's just got to learn about the new mode before forming a fair opinion. I used to think that Combined Arms was boring, yet when I played it last week with the Fireteam Group, I found that I very much enjoyed it – albeit not quite as much as Fireteam itself

The maps are something to behold, and I think most Outbreak fans would be on the same page. Honestly, I think they're some of the best looking in the entire franchise – and they actually play well for the most part

The most respectable thing about Fireteam is the fact that the objective is different. Inventing a new mode is borderline impossible because of how many games there are in this era, yet Treyarch actually thought of one that played well. You can either casually maintain a low profile and prime some bombs, or charge at the final bomb

Because of this, just about every play type is available – CQB, medium range, sniping, and so on. There's no meta, only strategy, which I think is far more rewarding than something as simple as running around Nuketown
