But character releases and competitive support will remain the same

2XKO is now only days away from finally launching in earnest, but it seems as though not everything is set in stone behind the scenes.
Riot Games has just released a new update blog, which details some changes being made to their content plans for the first year.
This first Weekend Warmup post should be a regular series coming on Thursdays every week now to provide updates for what’s going on currently for 2XKO.
While there’s a number of topics featured in this post, the section about game updates provides the most interesting information of all.
Last year, Riot had stated they were going to release five seasons of content for 2XKO across 2026, but that’s apparently not the case anymore.
Instead, the League of Legends fighting game will only have three seasons this year.
That, however, doesn’t mean they are cutting back on their planned champion releases with this change mostly reflected in the Battle Pass and Ranked resets.
“We previously said that 2XKO was going to have five seasons in 2026, but as we learned more about how y’all play through Early Access, it makes more sense to do fewer resets through the year for both Ranked and the Battle Pass,” wrote 2XKO Editor-in-Chief Ben Forbes.
“So we’re moving to three seasons in 2026, now mostly disconnected from champion releases and the competitive calendar. This won’t change too much overall aside from Ranked resets and new Battle Pass timings.”
“We’re still planning on releasing five champions in 2026, starting with Caitlyn, but the second champion of the year will now also fall within Season 1.”

As they said, the second planned character won’t be coming during Season 2 anymore, but will still be in the first.
So we should still expect a new fighter around every two months or so.
Another change is they’re moving store and mission updates to Thursdays instead of Tuesdays starting on January 29.
Riot has been sharing a lot more about what’s going to be included in Season 1 starting with Caitlyn’s gameplay trailer and movelist breakdown for the sheriff.
On top of that, the developers also shared the exact release time, Season 1 Battle Pass, and balance update overview coming to 2XKO next week.
2XKO is set to launch on January 20 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Their full Weekend Warmup update can be found in the social media post above.
