Red Dead Redemption 2 fans looking to get a little more out of the game over Christmas should really consider diving into Red Dead Online. While it doesn’t get nearly as much love as its cousin, GTA Online, it’s a genuinely spectacular online RPG that makes the most out of a stunningly detailed open world.
If you needed any encouragement, Red Dead Online currently has a bunch of limited-time events and free DLC that are only available for the next 48 hours. So quit your dilly-dallyin’ and get to it, boah.
Red Dead Redemption 2’s Online Mode Has Free DLC
Grab it while you can
Anyone who plays Red Dead Online between December 9 and January 5 can get their hands on the Winter Variant of the Evans Repeater completely free. It’s January 3 when this article goes out, so that means you don’t have long left. If that’s not quite enough to win you over, you can also get a reward for a Free Emote, a free honor reset, and a weight loss tonic if you log in before January 5.

All of this free content will remain available in Red Dead Online until January 5, after which it will be replaced by a new batch of monthly rewards, events, and challenges. With GTA 6 still months away, maybe 2026 is the year you give Red Dead Online a chance?
Red Dead Redemption 2 Still Has Loads To Do
Online isn’t for everyone
If Red Dead Online really isn’t for you, there’s still loads to do and see in Red Dead Redemption 2. The single-player game is still capable of surprising players who have put 1,000 into the game, proving there are always going to be secrets to find and new things to do.
There’s also some talk of a potential Red Dead Redemption 3, but that’s realistically years and years and years away. Basically, I think you’re better off sticking with Red Dead Online and Red Dead Redemption 2 for now. And GTA 6 will probably keep us busy for the next decade or so, at least.
