The Golden Yachties series is MassivelyOP’s annual set of fauxwards, named in honor of some guy who was convinced we are all making bank writing about MMORPGs and that it is so lucrative that we’re typing MMO blog posts from a gold-plated yacht. Did Poe’s Law apply? Nobody knows. We’re enjoying the view from the yacht’s deck, shown above, however.

Today, we reveal our pick for most accidentally hilarious MMO apology of the year. And the winner is…

Funcom’s Dune Awakening oopsie

In June, not long after Dune Awakening launched, Funcom came out with an apology post that basically admitted that most of its players were not actually interested in a gankbox and that the devs would be pivoting to make the endgame more PvE-friendly.

That’s not the hilarious part.

The hilarious part is that the apology is structured with pullquotes. For you non-blogger nerds out there, a pullquote is that thing where an article will pull out an important quote and blow it up with a special big font or something. So whoever actually put this post together – I seriously doubt it was poor Joel Bylos, whose name is on it – decided to blast right past the penitent “please don’t leave us baby, we can change” tone of the memo and pop out a whole bunch of semi-random quotes in giant caps as if this were some big splashy exclusive content announcement, thereby stripping all of the authenticity right out of the spiel.

As bloggers, we couldn’t stop laughing, and it remains one of the funniest PR things that happened all year. Bless you, Funcom intern.
