We recently reported on the newly announced fan-made game Capcom vs. Square: Parallel Destinies, though fans who have been paying attention surely know that this isn’t the first fan-made versus game involving Capcom characters we’ve talked about in recent years.

It’s been a few years now since we first heard about fan-made project Sega vs. Capcom: The Next Level and today, we have a new teaser trailer for the project and it seems to be shaping up quite nicely indeed.

It was back in 2023 that my colleague Dakota “DarkHorse” Hills did a piece on this fan project which pits Sega and Capcom characters against each other and at the time, the developers had already shown their plans for a ten character roster, with five each from Sega and Capcom respectively.

At the time, the Capcom side of the roster shown consisted of Street Fighter’s Ryu, X from the Mega Man X series, Batsu Ichimonji from Rival Schools, Morrigan Aensland from Darkstalkers and finally Lieutenant Linn Kurosawa from the Alien vs. Predator arcade game.

As for Sega, it had their main mascot character Sonic the Hedgehog, Axel Stone from Streets of Rage, Akira Yuki from Virtua Fighter, Skies of Arcadia’s main protagonist Vyse and finally the most central character of Sakura Wars, Sakura Shinguji.

In May of last year, a playable beta was made available which featured Ryu, X, Batsu, Sonic, Akira and Axel as playable characters.

Today, we got a new teaser trailer for the project and staying true to their promised roster from years ago, we now get our first proper gameplay look at Vyse and Morrigan.

The teaser trailer comes directly from the official YouTube account for Sega vs. Capcom: The Next Level and you can check it out in all of its glory below.

Towards the end of the teaser trailer, we get some new promises — first of all, a full trailer is set to be released at some point this month, which will likely incorporate more moves from the new characters and if we’re lucky maybe even show us glimpses of Linn and Sakura.

We also get confirmation at the last shot that the game will be coming out in July 2026 at DreamCon, stated as a “Season 1” suggesting that the developers are fully committed to supporting this fan project for some time.

I personally think it’s really cool seeing a fan project put this much effort into realizing their dream fighting game and honestly, both the models and the move sets (X in particular) look really well-crafted to me. But what do you think? Sounds off in the comments.
